It is with much sadness that our Club records the passing of George Ingram on 16 August 2022.
George Ingram joined Cheltenham in 1954 from Carrum as a third baseman. who batted from the left side of the plate. Exceptionally fast and daring on the bases, George soon became known as Cheltenham’s Ty Cobb with a reputation for being a fierce and aggressive competitor who took no prisoners. Most of his extra base hits came from his speed rather than power.
George played over 300 games between 1954 to 1973, predominately in A Grade and he continued to play well in the lower level teams until he retired in his forties shortly after the Amalgamation.
George’s performances were recognised with his selection as one of our finest 50 Players at the Club’s Century celebrations in 2014. Our deepest sympathy to George’s children, Jennifer and Russell and their families.
